ABSTRACT

A new approach for optimal control and real-time monitoring of horizontal wells is presented. This methodology uses inverse modelling concepts to estimate downhole flow rates that are not measured directly. The real-time estimator proposed is an ensemble Kalman filter combining a dynamic model of the multiphase pipe flow and information from conventional downhole sensors. The performance of the proposed algorithm has been studied for simulation based case studies both for noisy synthetic measurements and artificial data generated by the OLGA simulator.
