Vetco has been commissioned by Total to study a subsea gas liquid separation concept, for the development of deepwater fields. The concept's feasibility depends on subsea separation performance, meaning that it depends on a full understanding of dynamic behaviour of the whole subsea system, both in normal and degraded operating conditions: The simulation study required an integrated series of dynamic simulation of the flowlines, the risers and the subsea facility.
This paper describes the details of the dynamic flow modelling work and the methods required to improve the execution speed for the simulations. The paper also provides a selection of simulation results illustrating the advantages of performing dynamic simulations including control loops in the design phase.
