ABSTRACT

The flow of water-air mixture through fully-eccentric annuli has been investigated. A mechanistic model has been developed. A "representative diameter" term has been introduced. Model's results have been compared with experimental data obtained from Middle East Technical University – Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering Department – Cuttings Transport Multiphase Flow Loop. The results show that "representative diameter" method introduced in this study yields more accurate pressure loss and flow pattern estimations than hydraulic diameter method for annular geometries. Flow patterns are identified correctly and frictional pressure losses are estimated with an accuracy of less than 20% as compared with the experimental data.
