ABSTRACT

An experimental study of hydrates plugging risk during transient flows has been carried out by the Institut Français du Pétrole (IFP). The restart of an oil line was simulated within a semi-industrial pilot loop by the blowoff due to a sudden gas injection. Hydrodynamics were first studied by using a non hydrate forming gas and high temperatures. Phenomenological observations were then compared to the numerical simulations performed with the TACITE® software. Second, the influence of hydrates was investigated using methane at 7.106 Pa and 277 or 283 K.
