ABSTRACT

For design and operation of multiphase pipelines and receiving facilities knowledge of the liquid volume inventories may be crucial.

The multiphase pipeline flow models rely heavily on experimental laboratory data. Since extrapolation from laboratory- to field scale involves large uncertainties, the flow models may miss severely when compared to field data. In this context a new, non intrusive measurement technique for liquid accumulation has been developed. Theoretical studies, laboratory experiments and field tests have been run in order to verify the technique. The new technique has been used to obtain field data for liquid accumulation of both water and condensate in several pipelines (> 100km).
