INTRODUCTION

Multiphase pumps are used in the oil and natural gas producing and processing industry to deliver multiphase mixtures directly. The mixtures consist of liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons, water, as well as particles, e.g. sand or crystalline hydrates. The experimentally and theoretically investigated twin screw pumps are displacement pumps, which work with two axially parallel and inversely rotating screws. A cut of a twin screw pump is shown in fig. 1. Closed chambers are formed between the screws and the housing where the fluid is encased at inlet and ejected at outlet.
