Abstract

PETROBRAS for more than one decade has concentrated efforts and contributions to the development of the technological route of multiphase pumping – emphasis has been put on the development of a complete system for sub sea deployment. Based on such dedication and working under technological agreements with key component manufactures, a full of novelty Sub sea Multiphase Pumping System (SBMS-500) has been developed. This deep water system (up to 1,000 m) is essentially based on an adjustable speed electrically driven twin-screw pump and exhibiting abilities such as 500 m3/h total flow, 60 bar pressure increment and, operation under gas volumetric fractions (GVF) up to 95% v/v (100% with a re-circulation flow). In the development course of this system, which is under final onshore testing – installation planned for 2Q/2005 – four multiphase pumping systems, based on the same pump type, were previously installed on offshore platform decks. This paper reports, particularly, the field experience obtained with these multiphase pumping systems.
