Employers should consider that a collision can impact numerous policies. For commercial auto policies, there can be first-party bodily injury and property damage and third-party bodily injury and property damage. When employees are involved in a collision, their injuries are typically considered to be covered under workers' compensation. This will impact the employer's workers' compensation modification and, ultimately, the premium. Highlights of the 2015 Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries tell us that:

  • Roadway-related fatalities climbed 9 percent to 1264, accounting for 26 percent of all fatal work-related injuries.

  • Heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers experienced 745 fatal injuries, the most of any occupation
