Risk Management is creeping in to the fabric of the EH&S profession in good ways and is a developing organizational function. It has moved on from the traditional "pure risk" insurance centric model to a board room function that can tackle financial, operational, reputational, social responsibility, sustainability, governance and includes "opportunity risks".
The Risk Assessment Process has been around and in use in the EH&S field for a while but is an evolving interdisciplinary process in and of itself. Some examples include: JHA's (job hazard analysis); JSA's (job safety analysis); AHA's (activity hazard analysis); Industrial Hygiene Analytical Methods; Ergonomic Job Assessments; HAZWOPPER; and Pre-job Planning are all traditional risk assessment tools that many of us have worked with for years, so what is different now and where is the risk assessment process going?
