Mark Twain said, "Everyone talks about the weather, but no one does anything about it." Climate change is ushering in a new era of sustainability and climate resiliency initiatives to mitigate severe weather and impact. While initially viewed by many as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) expense, sustainability is driving innovation and beginning to positively impact bottom lines. The role of environmental safety and health professionals is being redefined and expanded to include sustainable initiatives. While climate change prevention and conservation efforts continue, increasing urgency is being assigned to resiliency. Growing metropolitan climate resiliency programs are an extension of business continuity frameworks, preserving safety, productivity, and profitability through arising adverse weather conditions. Collaborative sustainability leadership presents welcome opportunities to advance the environmental health and safety agenda and innovatively contribute to sustainable profitability.
