ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: A series of pressure injection tests to determine the rock permeability were conducted prior to the construction of Cerrillos Dam. Upon the first filling of the reservoir, foundation seepage exceeded the design estimate by a significant amount. An extensive field investigation to better identify the causes of the excessive seepage was initiated and a 3-D Finite Element seepage analysis was conducted. The ability to include cross-valley components of the water bearing rock units into the 3-D analysis provided a more accurate estimate of the seepage rates.
