ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The Bureau of Reclamation is performing dam safety studies for all of its existing dams, including approximately 60 concrete storage dams. Seminoe Dam, located on the North Platte River in Wyoming, is one of these. It is used here to illustrate the types of evaluations that are being performed. An overview of rock mechanics studies related to the safety of the dam are presented, including those addressing rock mass deformability, static and dynamic abutment sliding stability, overtopping erosion, spillway tunnel stability, and reservoir landslides.
