ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: An attempt was made in this paper to apply the principles indentation fracture mechanics to disc cutting. A total of 25 disc angles varying between 60° to 100° and diameters ranging from 100 mm to 200 mm was investigated. Following the indentation tests, cutting tests were carried out. As the same disc cutter was used in cutting tests, the data generated by the indentation tests could easily be transferred to those of cutting tests via a fracture mechanics model. Good agreements between theoretical analyses and experimental results were obtained.
