ABSTRACT In this paper, the constitutive equations of rock creep are described, and the external well casing loading due to rock creep under nonuniform in-situ stress is calculated by using finite element method. The external loading distribution and its time-dependent relationships, and the effect of the value of in-situ stress, the rheological characteristics of the muddy shale and rock salt formations, as well as the elastic and geometric parameters of well casing and cement mantle are also studied. The results would have a great value for the design of well casing in creep formations.
