ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: A study of breakouts was carried out for 8 wells in the Viosca Knoll area of the Gulf Coast to determine the orientation of the maximum horizontal principal stress. Breakout interpretation in a region of low stress anisotropy and low sediment strength is difficult because of the weakness of the stress signature. However, it is shown that the use of visual analyses of the data using trajectory and polar plots highlights reliable data. A general NE-SW maximum horizontal principal stress orientation was obtained for the region.
