ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT: Poroelastic effects cause the stress field around a producing well to differ from the initial stress field. The pressure response during a hydraulic fracture treatment may be misinterpreted due to this effect, leading to incorrect estimates of fracture geometry. In addition, the stress field around a producing well in anisotropic or heterogeneous formations may be such that the fracture orientation differs from that which would occur if the well were fractured prior to production. Several examples show how these effects may be estimated.
