ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT : The two different back analysis procedures are presented and their performances compared. Both of these methods are designed to obtain stress, stain and displacement fields as accurately as possible with the presence of nonlinearity in deformational mechanism of a given geological medium. Some analyses of the results of applying these to an actual excavation problem show capability of these methods. Also recognized are theoretical limits in the precision of the proposed back analyses and a possible direction of further improvements.
