ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT: The research carried out indicates that there exists a close relationship between rupture energy and the intensity of the stress applied at the moment of failure. This relationship is valid for both the uni-axial and the tri-axial strength tests therefore confirming that during the failure process there is a simultaneous mobilization of the tensile and the shear strengths whereas the rupture energy is determined from the distortion energy. Therefore, energy spent by the rupture mechanism represents a parameter that determines the strength and deformability characteristics of a material. The results agree well with available experimental data.
