ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: In tunneling, the prompt detection of weak zones ahead of the tunnel face is a key factor. It has been shown in the literature that tunnel wall displacements are sensitive to the presence of weak rock ahead of the tunnel face. In this paper, we investigate the influence of rock mass anisotropy (transverse isotropy) and rock stress on tunnel wall displacements when the tunnel face is advancing toward a weak rock mass.
